An interesting Online Webinar by EuroCham on ‘Malaysia’s Labour Market Outlook in the Time of COVID-19 Confirmation’.
C0vid-19 affected Malaysia in many ways, in many unexpected ways. One of them is the labour market.

An interesting sharing session by Kapten Imad, from UMP, on initiative by Magic to cultivate and nurture social enterprising among the communities in Malaysia.
ICoN UMP looks forward to this initiative especially in uplifting the communities in the East Coast of Malaysia.

November 23 – 24th
Arduino Programming via TinkerCAD is an online class organised by UMP STEM LAB.
The main focus of this class is to give an overview, basic introduction to the physical computing – digital making skills – on the Arduino Microcontroller platform. TinkerCAD offers an alternative that enables students to program and visualize the microcontroller (hardware) responses.

Third online class of part time course – Electronic System Design, which emphasize on the topic of Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) and Finite State Machine (FSM). ALU is a core built of the CPU – that basically made up a computer. Understanding the fundamental of how these units operates digitally plays an important part in developing the competencies for electronic system designers. the topic begins with a simple structure of a half adder and later transits to full adder, ripple carry adder and carry look ahead adder.
The second part of the class focuses on FSM, which elaborates on the two well known concept – Moore and Mealy machines. The concepts of counters and its variabilities were revised and later build up with the two machines mentioned previously.

Chaired by En Mohd Shahril, Lembaga Pengarah Universiti.
ICoN to play its’ role in elevating the engagement between UMP community, targeting students, and industry players.

An interesting discussion on Block Chain and Malaysia’s stand towards this technology.
BChain is disruptive to 2 main aspects:-
As for Talent development, we should focus on generating graduates who are:-

November 18th 2020
Discussed on several item related to ICoN’s UMP activities over the past 2 years which include Industry Academia Collaboration, CEO Faculty Programs and the recent U4s.
University – Industry linkages is a challenging topic, often due to the need and aspiration mismatch between the university and industry. As an academia, it is our ultimate aim to prepare graduates that are able to address the requirements and competencies as required by the industry. However, with the rapid advancement of technology, achieving a balance between laying a solid fundamental knowledge and ability to cope with the sophistication of technology has always been a hot debate.
One thing for sure, Malaysia is in need for pool of talent. Building up a k-economy or even a k-society foundation is a must and collaboration between university and industry is a way forward.
That being said, with the recent outbreak of Covid -19, everyone need to be creative and agile to grab opportunities that strike.

Week 5 – Revisit on antenna parameters, electrically small antenna, resonant antenna and antenna simulation.
It is a must for an antenna designer to be equipped with antenna modelling and simulation skills. From simulation results, the behavior of an antenna could be estimated hence giving a sense of confidence to pursue to the next stage of antenna design – fabrication and measurement.

🙂
This picture best described the tools we’re associated with in relation to numerical skills. The peak was during college years – of course. With all the programming tools – name it Matlab, Pascal, C++, C #, Python – unless you become a lecturer like I am now 🙂 , you’ll find out that Excel (spreadsheet) is one of the most frequent tools used in your daily life.
Motivated by this, UMP STEM Lab, for the first time ever, hosted an online course on Microsoft Office for Beginners and Intermediate. Among topics covered include on managing, modifying and printing workbooks for beginners. The intermediate segment touches on formulating the cells to execute functions, analyze and visualize data.
