A Teaching portfolio is a collection of documents that together provide a record of:

  1. The ideas and objective that inform your teaching.
  2. The courses you teach or are prepared to teach
  3. The method you use
  4. Your effectiveness as a teacher
    • Evidence include Student evaluation (e-PAT), evaluation by faculty members or other observers, teaching awards and videotape of a class.
    • Evidence of professional development include teaching workshops, seminar, publications and etc.
  5. How you assess and improve your teaching

It’s vary depending on their specific purpose, audience, institutional context and individual needs.

It’s contains:

  1. Your teaching philosophy
    • Your belief about education and teaching.
      • Example: You belief that your student has different level of intelligence. Thus, to hold that belief you conduct different ways to tackle all students. Your belief reflect your teaching approach.
  2. Pieces of evidence
    • Sample assignments and assessments including essay assignments, exam, comments you write on student papers
    • e-PAT result
  3. Descriptions and analysis of that evidence
  4. Conclusion

What is your teaching portfolio? Think about it and include it into your teaching portfolio. It can be improvise later.

Why do we need to have a teaching portfolio?

  • As a developmental process for reflecting and improving teaching
  • As an evaluating product for personnel decision
  • To give evaluators a sense of who you are as a teacher.
  • To allow you to reflect on an improve your teaching

By having Teaching portfolio, it help providing different sources of evidence of teaching performance and offer opportunity for faculty to work collaboratively.

So, lets get started!

First, get a folder with a divider inside. Then, decorate the folder as beautiful as possible and start thinking about the materials. What should you include in your folder.

Write your teaching philosophy nicely and include CV in the folder. As a starter, you already have the first part of your teaching portfolio.
