Renewable Fuel for Internal Combustion Engine: The Promising Future Energy

Energy is a basic need for human life. Energy security is becoming critical issue when the depletion and the slow progress of new exploration of fossil fuel. This paper discusses the renewable energy and fuel for the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). In 2001, British Petroleum estimated the total natural gas reserves to be 187.5 trillion cubic meters, which can supply up to 7×1015 MJ of energy. The total petroleum reserves can supply up to 1,383 billion barrels which amounts to 8.4×1015 MJ of energy. Due to the increasing population and economic development, these fuel reserves will not last long. Energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions are two important and critical issues. Malaysia is one of the countries that are rich and abundant in fossil fuel energy resources. The country are planning for the energy security from few decade ago and soon will implement one of their major initiative which is Malaysian Fit-in Tariff (FiT), it’s scheduled to be implemented by second quarter of 2011. Renewable energy (RE) resources in Malaysia are widely categorized as biomass and biofuel, hydro energy, solar energy and wind energy. Environmental effect is very important for the renewable and greener energy. By increasing the utilization of renewable energy resources will give direct reduction effect to the country’s contribution to worldwide greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. As Malaysia’s and the world’s population, continues to grow and increasingly energy defendant, the future of energy supply will grow. This paper investigates the potential of renewable resources in Malaysia at present and the magnitude of their present and future contributions to the national energy consumption. Conclusions will be drawn from the results of this investigative scan and recommendations will be proposed.
