Working with external partners to bring good services and products to market faster or develop better intellectual property has never been more welcome in the world of education than what we see today.
The term open innovation is more like an umbrella term that can be used to cover other different ways of working with external partners including challenge-driven innovation, crowdsourcing, platform innovation or user-driven innovation.
When I am asked to define networked or open innovation, I often say that it does not really matter how I define this. It is much more important that the tertiary education or university develop their own ordinary language and understanding for this in a way that fits their specific background and conditions. This must also work internally as well as externally.
