In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, the role of a Professional Technologist stands out as a beacon of expertise and innovation. But how does one transition from a promising graduate to a seasoned professional in the field of technology? In this blog, we’ll explore the journey of becoming a Professional Technologist, uncovering the steps, challenges, and rewards along the way.

Graduate Technologists aspiring to become Professional Technologists must accrue a minimum of three years’ practical experience in related technology and technical fields, a requirement determined by the Board. This experience is not counted from the registration date as a Graduate Technologist; however, previous relevant experience within the technology fields is taken into consideration by MBOT. Additionally, candidates must pay the prescribed fee and fulfill all criteria set by the Board.

My Professional Technologist Certificate

Upon meeting these requirements, Graduate Technologists must undergo a professional assessment in their respective technology and technical fields. Each assessment incurs a non-refundable fee of RM600. Successful candidates must then apply for Professional Technologist status, accompanied by a fee of RM350.

Once approved by the Board, Professional Technologists are granted certain privileges, including the authority to approve and certify technical services. They are also entitled to use specific titles and designations, such as “Professional Technologist” or “Ts.” before their name, along with the abbreviation “P.Tech” and their specialization.

It’s important to note that Professional Technologist status requires annual renewal, involving a fee of RM200. Renewal is contingent upon completing 30 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) hours endorsed by MBOT. This ensures that Professional Technologists remain current and proficient in their respective fields.
